About N. K. P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur

The institution had started off with an aim to fill in the additional need of medical education in the region and to be able to deliver health services to patients in and around central India.

The institution spread over 68 acres of land on the periphery of the city, and sits amidst open natural settings. From a single storey structure, it now annexes groups of buildings housing the varied departments. Recognized by the NMC (National Medical Commission), it has an intake of 200 UG seats. It was earlier affiliated to Nagpur University but is now affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Having started with under graduate courses it has in due time attained recognition for PG courses in all subjects and also MCh, PhD, Fellowships in certain subjects. Additional courses are in the offering to generate qualified manpower in requisite specialties and other paramedical subjects that needed.

The Pre and Para clinical departments located in the spacious double storied building complex. The clinical departments housed in the spacious well-equipped hospital adjoining the college. The hospital is 1040 bedded and attached to the college.

All the departments, including preclinical and clinical, are fully equipped as per the norms laid down by NMC. Central Library

The NKPSIMS & RC and LMH Library is a ‘State of Art’, spacious & well stacked Library spread over 33000 sq. ft. area. Air-conditioned E-Library with 70 computers is available. VCDs, CDs & DVDs on various medical subjects are also available. Library has an adequate stock of undergraduate & postgraduate text & reference books along with national & international journals in print & E- versions. Several magazines & 15 newspapers are also available. The library is subscribing ‘DELNET’, and ‘MEDLINE ULTIMATE’ database, 2508 E-journals, and 3000 above e-books are available. The library is ‘automated’ with a management software named ‘Synchronik’.

Hostel

The college campus has 7 hostels. There are separate boys and girls’ hostels for undergraduate students. There is a common hostel for girls and boys doing post-graduation. The hostels are named as Sahayadri, Satpuda, Narmada, Vainganga, Vindyachal, and Gangasagar. The hostels have provision for accommodation for students who come from different parts of country. The hostel has dining halls, common room, etc. The mess provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is centralized kitchen where the food is prepared and distributed to all the hostels. Maximum hostels have attached toilets with each room and few hostels have common toilets on each floor.

The Lata Mangeshkar Hospital is attached to the N.K.P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre as a teaching hospital. The hospital has been upgraded to a 1130 bedded fully equipped hospital. It is located at Digdoh Hills and serves the people of nearby villages and industrial areas of Central India. It has excellent facilities for hospitalization of indoor patients. The speciality units of the hospital are well patronized by the people because of its location and its affordable charges. There is 24×7 hours Casualty and disaster management facility.

It provides facilities like 24 hours Pathology and Blood Bank, ECG, Radiology including MRI, CT scan, Color Doppler etc. The Surgery Units not only perform routine surgeries but also have a Burn Unit, Reconstructive Surgery Unit, Urology and Plastic Surgery Unit. General Medicine Department caters to adult diseases and has a well-equipped ICU/ICCU as well as Dialysis Unit. Laser treatment and Eye Bank facilities are also available. The Paediatric department works for the welfare of the new born as well as adolescent; it has Neonatal ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and Paediatric ICU. The hospital also has a separate ward for Psychiatric Indoor patients.  A well-equipped Obstetrics & Gynaecology department caters to mother and child care.
