About KJ Somaiya Medical College & Research Centre, Mumbai

The K J Somaiya Medical College is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) and provides quality medical education to students enrolled in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs related to medical sciences. The college has adopted the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum as prescribed by the regulations to Graduate Medical Education from the academic year 2019.

The K. J. Somaiya Medical College is a Private Medical College owned and managed by the Somaiya Medical Trust and is situated in the Somaiya Ayurvihar Complex in the heart of city of Mumbai. The sapling of Medical College has grown over the years and now has a multitude of qualified and experienced teaching faculty and Resident Doctors working in 21 well equipped departments. The College runs an Undergraduate Program in Medical Sciences (MBBS) and Postgraduate Programs in Medical Broad specialities of Paediatrics (M.D.), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (M.S.) and Anatomy (M.D.)

Library

The existing Library on the 6th floor has 1172 Sq.mt area. It has got seating arrangements for 200 students and Staff reading room having 20 seats. The library has 16505 books with latest Editions. An area of 600 sq. Ft has been provided for Xerox copying facilities.   A Computer room having 30 Computers providing Internet and Medline are available for students and staff. The Journal section has a display room of current Journals.  At present 78 Journals which includes 43 National and 35 International are available.  Volume of old Journals are kept in separate section.  Library works round the clock on all working days.

Hostel

The K J Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre, attached to the medical college, is a tertiary care hospital equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to offer the best in modern medicine coupled with holistic approach in patient care. As part of our commitment to the service of society the entire hospital was converted into a Dedicated COVID Hospital during the first and the second wave of the pandemic and has also served as a vaccination centre for COVID 19.

Casualty and emergency services

A modernized casualty / Emergency medicine department equipped with round the clock doctors and paramedical staff serves as a first point of contact for critically ill patients brought to the hospital and ensures immediate treatment.

IPD services

IPD services include a wide range of patient accommodations depending on the criticality of illness ranging from general wards to intensive care units to deliver highest level of care and comfort. All IPD patients are provided with meals according to their nutritional requirement as advised by the dietician.

Eligibility MBBS

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)

– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)

Admission Process

Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.
