About GSVM Medical College, Kanpur

G.S.V.M. Medical College is situated in the heart of the historic and industrial city of Kanpur. The city of Kanpur is embraced by our most holy river ‘Ganga’ from two sides, northwest (Kalyanpur) and northeast (Jajmau). In the British period our city was known as Cawnpore. It has a special place in Hindu mythology. It’s Bithoor area is famous from Ramayana era. Presently the Kanpur city is famous for its industrial organization and educational institutes. Our city is the economic capital of Uttar Pradesh.

This Medical college has a sprawling campus with hospital and college sections accommodated in huge buildings. The main college building looks like a huge palace and is the biggest amongst all medical colleges in U.P. The main hospital (L.L.R Hospital) along with its sister units e.g., Chest hospital, Infectious disease hospital, Children hospital, Maternity hospital, Cancer institute and Cardiology institute, constitute the biggest patient care centre in Asia.

Central Library 

It has a large collection of textbooks and reference books and subscribes to a large number of National and International journals. The library also has a textbook bank for poor students. The library opens for thirteen hours on every working day It is air conditioned and equipped with internet facility.

Auditorium

It is one of the biggest in Kanpur and has a capacity of 673 seats along with a huge stage and facility for screening films. It is now under renovation.

Lecture theatres

There are 4 lecture theatres. Lecture theatre 1 and 3 are on ground floor and 2 and 4 on first floor. These lecture theatres are big enough to accommodate about 300 students in each. All the lecture theatres are fully air-conditioned, equipped with audio visual and multimedia aids with a power backup.

Hostel

Separate hostels for both boys and girls. There are 9 hostels for medical students and resident doctors and one for Diploma in Pharmacy students of this college.

Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital

The hospitals attached to the G.S.V.M. Medical College are called L.L.R.and Associated Hospitals. The hospital campus is spread over a large area. The main Lala Lajpat Rai hospital was known as “Hallet Hospital” in the past. The foundation stone of this hospital was laid on August 7, 1943 by ‘Sir’ Maurice Garnier Hallet, Governor of the United Provinces.

It was opened by Field-Marshall Viscount Wavell of Cyrenaica and Winchester, Viceroy and Governor General of India on 16th Dec. 1944. After the independence of India its name was changed by government of U.P. and named often the great freedom-fighter, Lala Lajpat Rai. Main building of L.L.R. hospital houses departments of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, E.N.T, Skin and V. D., Radio diagnosis, O.P.D., Mortuary, Casualty, Emergency I.C.U and Medicine I.C.U.

Eligibility & Admission Process for GSVM Medical College, Kanpur

Eligibility MBBS

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)

– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)
