About Government Medical College, Ongole 

Government Medical College, Ongole formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RGIMS Ongole) founded in 2011 and is most popularly known as RIMS Ongole, located in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh.

Government Medical College, Ongole is a medical institution of excellence that offers quality medical and para-medical education with an infrastructure that is one of the best in the country. Within a short span of its inception, it has made its mark in the field of medical education as a quality institution growing at considerable pace, grooming future health care professionals.

The foundation stone for the medical college laid by Late. Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 01-07-2007. The Institute named as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ongole and established as semiautonomous institute under act 31 of 2007 spread over 37.23 acres. RIMS has converted to “Government Medical College” with effect from 28/12/2018 vide G.O, M.S No. 232 HM & FW (A) dept.

• First batch of M.B.B.S course started with 100 students during the academic year 2011-2012.
• During 2019-2020, Twenty additional seats added under EWS Quota.
• Post Graduate courses  initiated in the year 2018, in 3 departments viz; Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology with 4 seats each.
• In the year 2021, Two seats added in the department of Psychiatry.
• Letter of intent for Post Graduate course seats received from NMC for one seat in Respiratory Medicine and two seats in forensic medicine.
• Application submitted for NMC for new 79 post graduate seats.

Eligibility & Admission Process for Government Medical College, Ongole

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)
