Avalon University AUSOM, founded in 2003 is chartered by the government of Curacao with an excellent academic team and remarkable curriculum that focus on success of its student fraternity. Along with strong emphasis on student’s academic success, the administration also highlights on personal care to assure both students and parents ease and comfort. A promising unique MD program with a 4year MD program, a 5year PreMed/MD program, a 48-week Graduate renewal program is designed to best benefit the students.

AUSOM’s faculty consists of professors who are qualified doctors with a great experience and knowledge of the basic sciences and medical practice, which makes them an integral part of the success of AUSOM graduates. The island of Curacao is one of the most developed and modern islands in the Caribbean, which allows AUSOM to conduct the medical program in an up-to-date and friendly environment. As a Caribbean medical school, our goal is to make sure that all students obtain a sufficient level of medical knowledge to understand the basic facts, concepts and principles essential to successful medical practice.

With our designed small class sizes being an average of only 30 students per class, this attractive student-to-teacher ratio offers students the experience of individualized attention in our intensive medical school program. AUSOM was founded in 2003 in Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles (now known as the Caribbean Netherlands) as the Xavier University School of Medicine. In 2010, the university relocated to Curacao and changed its name to Avalon University School of Medicine

Having a curriculum modelled after U.S. medical schools, AUSOM focuses on quality medical education and training in order to ensure medical licensure and residency placement for graduates. AUSOM also provides highly sought after clinical rotations in U.S. teaching hospitals.
AUSOM is an accredited Caribbean medical school which is listed by the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), a division of the United States Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). IMED/ECFMG listing and endorsement ensures that Avalon University’s graduates are eligible to take the USMLE and subsequently apply for U.S. residency programs. Additionally, AUSOM has received recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Medical Council of Canada (MCC).
Being one of the few Caribbean medical schools founded and directed primarily by U.S. physicians, and by following the U.S. medical school model, AUSOM ensures that students are well equipped with an up-to-date, comprehensive, and competitive medical education.
