AIIMS Sets Up Committee To Reform Pattern Of Teaching, Clinical Training & Evaluation Of Final Year MBBS Medicos
New Delhi: Taking note of the poor attendance of final-year MBBS Students, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has decided to modify its current pattern of teaching, clinical training and evaluation system.
Therefore, the premiere medical institute has constituted an eleven-member committee for suggesting changes in the current format of teaching and clinical training. After consulting all the stakeholders, this committee will submit its recommendations in a period of two months.
The committee will be led under the Chairmanship of Dr. Piyush Ranjan, Professor Department of Medicine. Apart from this, other members of this committee include Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, Dr. Ranveer Singh Jadon, Additional Professor, Department of Medicine, Dr. Mohit Joshi, Additional Professor, Department of Surgery, Dr Vidushi Kuishestra, Additional Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr Aditi Sinha, Additional Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Siddharth Sarkar, Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatry and NDDTC, Dr Kanika Sahini, Additional Professor, Department of Dermatology & Venereology, Dr . Vivek Shankar, Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedics, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, and Dr. Mohan Bairwa, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine.
The decision for setting up such a committee was taken after the Institute administration took cognizance of the fact that final-year MBBS students are more invested for preparation for PG entrance examination.
Referring to this, AIIMS Director Prof. M. Srinivas mentioned in the recent notice, “it has been found that the attendance of students in the lecture classes is poor. Rather, they are found more interested in coaching classes meant for the preparation for the PG entrance examination. Besides, in the last few years, the method of teaching and learning has changed significantly with a larger participation of online methods and simulation-based training.”
“The committee will submit its report to Dean for approval and implementation. Registrar may facilitate the committee by providing logistic support like booking the Dean’s committee room for the meetings based on availability,” it added.
