Zhejiang Chinese Medical University initially began in June 1953 as Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Training School. Then, in June 1959, it was promoted to Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the former location of Zhejiang University on Qingchun Street, Hangzhou.

In September 2015, the Fuchun Campus, which was part of the Binjiang College Relocation Project, went into operation and opened up the dual-campus model of education. The university covers an area of 1,000 mu (about 165 acres) today, with the total construction area over 470,000 square meters.
As one of China’s earliest universities entitled to recruit and train postgraduate students in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the university has a leading edge in medical education and research.
