Yerevan State Medical University Named for Mkhitar Heratsi.docx Founded by the Government of Armenia in January 1920, the university’s medical faculty was officially established in October of that year by Prime Minister H. Ohanjanyan and Minister of Public Education G. Ghazaryan. On November 3, 1922, a training school for the medical faculty was founded at Yerevan City Hospital, starting with just six staff members. 

Today, the university educates approximately 6,360 students, including 1,184 international students, and employs over 1,100 professors who engage in both scientific and pedagogical work. It also operates two hospitals and conducts research and educational activities in collaboration with leading research centers and clinical facilities in Yerevan. The current rector is Mr. Armen A. Muradyan.
