The university has always pursued high academic standards. In 2006, it passed successfully the undergraduate teaching evaluation held by the Ministry of Education of China and was graded as “Excellent.” In 2016, XXMU again passed the undergraduate teaching work inspection and evaluation of the Ministry of Education and validated its powerful teaching strength.

The same year, it was included in the “13th Five-Year Plan” National 100 Central and Western Universities Basic Capacity Construction Project Support Institutions, a designation that fortified its potential for growth. The historical roots of XXMU go back to 1896, when a British physician Lohyde established the Western Medicine Clinic in Weihui City. The clinic was expanded to a hospital in 1903 by a Canadian missionary and given the name Boji Hospital, which was later changed to Huimin Hospital in 1920. 

The Nursing School of Huimin Hospital, founded in 1922 by Canadian educator Witlif, marked the beginning of systematic medical education. Based on this, the Pingyuan Province Medical School was established in 1950, renamed The Second North China Medical School in 1952, and further changed to the Xinxiang Prefecture Medical College in 1958. 

It was renamed the Medical College of North Henan in 1962, and in 1982, it was officially upgraded into a Ministry of Education-approved undergraduate institution, using its current name, Xinxiang Medical University.

XXMU is following its strategy of “enriching the university with quality education, promoting the university with scientific research, and empowering the university with talent cultivation.” The university has 22 schools, colleges, and departments, covering the seven major academic categories of medicine, science, engineering, literature, law, management, and education. 

Its. clinical medicine department is among the top 1% worldwide in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and is listed among the National. Double First-Class Majors.
