Its foundation is traceable to the historical Utrecht School, a movement arising from interdisciplinary cooperation in social sciences, law, and medicine. These thinkers accepted cross-fertilization of knowledge in seeking innovative solutions for great societal problems.

Incidentally, although the original Utrecht School pioneers did not fully understand how significant their work was back then, others did. There was even a Strasbourg professor who gave it the label of “Utrecht School” to denote their distinct perspective.
