The Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) was established in 1967 by a decree of the Holy See, at the request of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, under the legislation of the 1940 Concordat. The first academic unit was the Faculty of Philosophy in Braga, which had been operating since 1947.
The creation of the Faculty of Medicine at UCP is a project that dates back more than 20 years, but it was only in 2018 that the conditions were in place for its realization.
