Tsinghua University School of Medicine – Ranking

After the founding of the School of Medicine in 2001, Tsinghua University moved the academic discipline of Biomedical Engineering into the school and officially established the Department of Biomedical Engineering, a major initiative toward interdisciplinary integration of medicine and technology. 

The medical system of the university is also reinforced by its affiliated hospitals: The First Hospital of Tsinghua University, established in February 1959 and subsequently incorporated into Tsinghua in April 2003, serves as an overall Class III comprehensive hospital that covers medical treatment, teaching, research, and preventive health care; and Tsinghua University Yuquan Hospital, initially set up as Beijing Yuquan Hospital in 1983, which was acquired by Tsinghua in April 2003 and renamed correspondingly.

In 2008, the establishment of the medical school was significantly promoted under the governance of Shi Yigong, Vice President of Tsinghua University at the time, who, as Executive Vice Dean, aggressively recruited talented medical personnel and fostered the school’s academic and institutional development. 

To continue to broaden its academic portfolio, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences was initiated in January 2012, and later in the same year, its official launch followed, while the Institute for Hospital Management—the first professional hospital management research and training institute in China—was also initiated in 2012. 

Aware of the increasing significance of pharmaceutical sciences, Tsinghua University further elevated the subject by establishing the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) on December 25, 2015. To this day, Tsinghua Medicine continues to nurture top-caliber doctors, medical scientists, and healthcare leaders.
