Years later, in 2000, Tongji University experienced another major transformation when it merged with Shanghai Tiedao University, resulting in the re-establishment of the medical school as Tongji University School of Medicine (TUSM), and now reconstructed on the basis of medical courses of Shanghai Tiedao University.
