Soochow University was formally registered with the Nanjing National Government in 1929 and became an undisputed top-rate academic institution. In 1952, during a nationwide reorganization of China’s higher education institutions, Soochow University merged with the Southern Jiangsu College of Culture and Education and Jiangnan University, creating the Southern Jiangsu Teachers’ College. It was later renamed the Jiangsu Teachers’ College in the same year.
