The university was later renamed Shandong Medical University in 1985. In July 2000, with the combinations of Shandong University, Shandong Medical University, and Shandong University of Technology, the Preclinical Medicine Department and the Clinical Medicine Department of the original Shandong Medical University were incorporated into the recently formed Shandong University School of Medicine.
