These efforts bore fruit in the form of a hospital, which was built on the premises of the old Shoren-in Temple in the picturesque Higashiyama district. In a bid to improve the standards of medical education, a prestigious German anesthesiologist was invited to deliver lectures at the facility and introduce Western methods of medicine to the area.
