In 1975, while the democratic winds were enabling the nation to dream of a new future, Ruy Luís Gomes was the first rector of the University of Porto since the portuguese revolution of April’ 74, and allied himself with two professors, scientists and doctors – Corino de Andrade and Nuno Grande – in a bold equation that led to the establishment of a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional school, whose mission was to teach medicine and other professions related to life and health sciences, which they called the (Abel Salazar) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS)
