Inner Mongolia Medical University “Inner Mongolia University” (IMU) in Hohhot City, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s capital and a city steeped in history and culture only slightly over 400 kilometers from Beijing, is a highly respected institution of higher learning with an illustrious tradition. Established in 1957, it was the first university founded by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the central government in an ethnic minority region following the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The university was established on solid foundations of scholarship laid by renowned scholars like Li Jitong, Yale PhD and Class A professor at Peking University, who was Vice President for academic affairs. Many leading academics from China’s premier universities, such as Peking University, introduced their academic traditions to IMU, creating a scholarly environment and strong administrative framework. Along the way, IMU has made remarkable progress: it was allowed to accept postgraduates in 1962, designated as one of China’s 88 key universities in 1978, and permitted to award doctoral degrees in 1984.
