A further milestone was achieved in 2002, when the college merged with the Hunan Provincial Academy of Chinese Medicine—although in 2022 the academy once again became independent. In 2006, by the endorsement of China’s Ministry of Education, the institution was officially renamed Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. In 2012, it was designated as a “Domestic First-Class Construction University” as part of Hunan Province’s higher education construction strategy.
