Taking the worldwide trend of the internationalization of higher education as an opportunity, and seizing the strategic opportunity of internationalizing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Gansu, the College has implemented scientific and strategic planning. Bypassing obstacles, it has pushed forward bravely, venturing to open up new approaches to cooperation with foreign universities, broadening fields of cooperation, and creating new markets for foreign students—mainly in countries along the Silk Road which are Russian-speaking nations. To deepen its allure, the College has created various teaching brands including “Dunhuang Medicine”, “Combination of Chinese and Western Medicine”, “Zheng’s Acupuncture”, and “Vital Qi Running”.
The efforts have hugely boosted the magnetism of the university towards overseas students, hence a model of synergistic development involving both short-term training programs and formal study for overseas learners. Nowadays, the College accommodates 123 international undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students from 23 nations, such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Laos, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nigeria, South Africa, East Timor, Nepal, Yemen, Ukraine, Canada, Vietnam, South Korea, Congo-Brazzaville, and Thailand.

Moreover, through overseas programs like Qihuang Colleges of Chinese Medicine and other Chinese Medicine Centers, the College has trained over 500 students in short-term TCM. Of these, more than 200 excellent students have gone on to further study at the College itself. These activities have greatly strengthened the College’s impact among Russian-speaking nations along the Belt and Road, creating a solid basis for becoming a regional center for international education in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Academically, the College has launched a curriculum focusing on early hands-on training in TCM skills, designed according to the needs of Russian-speaking students. Periodic practical sessions significantly enhance students’ interest and strengthen their professional thinking.
Additionally, in 2020, the College initiated the “Zhihua Classroom” series—specialized lectures aimed at giving students extensive knowledge of Chinese culture, local customs, laws and regulations, etc. By combining professional education with cultural education, the College cultivates international talents in Traditional Chinese Medicine who are well-learned about China, kind to the Chinese nation, and closely attached to the University.
By launching activities such as Silk Road cultural visits, Dunhuang cultural tour activities, and vigorous promotion of TCM, the College not only promotes the international promotion of Chinese medicine but also composes the spirit of Chinese traditional culture.
