Statutory recognition was given to the NHH in 1939, by which the study of commerce and economics became official disciplines in academic circles. The highlight resulted in the institution’s being renamed the Netherlands School of Economics (Nederlandse Economische Hogeschool, NEH). As society itself became more complex in the mid-20th century, the institution grew with additional faculties such as Law and Social Sciences in the 1960s and later Philosophy, History and Arts and Business Administration, thus increasing its scope academically.
