Founded in 1973, the School of Medicine soon grew to accommodate the expanding demand for healthcare education in the area. The affiliated hospital started in 1976 as a practical background for clinical training. The Graduate School of Medicine came on board in 1979 to further enhance academic research strengths.

The Department of Nursing was added in 1994, and later the Nursing Major in 1998, demonstrating an emphasis on comprehensive health care education.
