This twinning is a testament to UL’s continued vision in advancing healthcare education at varying points of entry.

In 2018, the school launched the Master’s in Health Professions Education (MHPE) in response to the changing needs of healthcare educators in the region and around the world. With an awareness of the hectic schedules of health professionals, the programme is delivered in blended and fully online versions, while its academic sophistication remains uncompromised.

This inter-disciplinary programme equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to make a difference across careers in healthcare, government, private and non-profit organizations. Employing a competency-based, blended-learning approach, it integrates case-study methodology and real-world applications in order to prepare graduates with the capabilities to be leaders in public health.

In response to increased national and global demand for biomedical sciences and biopharma professionals, UL’s School of Medicine launched the BSc in Biomedical Science in 2021. The programme offers students a research-based and collaborative learning environment leading to healthcare, laboratory science, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industry careers.

Research is an integral component of the school’s mission

Faculty and students engage in research that crosses biomedical sciences, medicine, surgery, primary care, and pre-hospital care with the aim of creating knowledge that is not only academically rigorous but also immediately deployable to real medical problems.

Postgraduate training is offered under Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs under both traditional and structured modes. The school’s research excellence is demonstrated through national awards of excellence, such as Irish Health Services Executive Open Access Awards and Doctor Awards from the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland.

Furthermore, PhD-driven research has contributed to patent filings, the creation of new medical devices, and the creation of new healthcare approaches, validating the school as an innovation centre and source of clinical impact.
