Benha University Faculty of Medicine, founded by Presidential Decree No. 1143 on 25 January 1976, is the ninth faculty for medicine in Egypt and was founded to aid in the country’s medical renaissance among other faculties.

Undergraduate education commenced in 1977/1978 with the transfer of students from Qalyubia and surrounding governorates, while in 1981/1982 the first class of first-year students was enrolled, initially with 50 students and later increasing to 450 by 2002/2003. 

Clinical training was conducted initially at Benha Teaching Hospital until 1981, when the first specific hospital building was erected, followed by the Emergency and Surgery Hospitals in 1987 and the Internal Medicine Hospital in 1993.
