About Huzhou University School of Medicine and Nursing
Its history dates back to 1916, when the Qiantang Dao (a former administrative division equivalent to a county) set up the No. 3 Teachers’ Training School. It developed into higher education in 1958, and in 1994, it started admitting undergraduate students.
Huzhou University was formally founded in March 1999 by consolidating three schools: Huzhou Normal Junior College, Huzhou Teacher’s School, and Huzhou Teacher’s Training School. Not long afterward, in May 2000, the old Huzhou Medical School was also merged, enhancing its scholarly foundation of medical education even more.

An important milestone was reached on February 6, 2006, when Xi Jinping, the then leader of Zhejiang Province, came to visit Huzhou University. When inspecting the university, he wished that the university would “act upon its own conditions with its own characteristics and serve the local community,” which he imagined would develop into “Huzhou Normal University—an institution with significant influence, academic strength, and nationwide recognition.”
Ever since, the university has been making consistent strides. It started admitting postgraduates in 2012 and was awarded Master’s Degree Conferring Institution status in 2018. Its standalone college, the School of Qiuzhen, was reorganized into a public university called Huzhou College in 2021.
