GLADZOR University, one of the most renowned medieval Armenian universities, was founded in 1291 in the village of Gladzor, located in the Yeghegnadzor region of Vayots Dzor. Under the leadership of Nerses Mshetsi, the university operated until 1340, featuring an internal charter and academic degrees. Gladzor University was primarily focused on the social sciences, offering instruction in theology, philosophy, rhetoric, arithmetic, and astrology.

Yerevan Gladzor University (YGU), originally known as Gladzor Management University until 2006, was founded in 1990 with the mission of restoring and continuing the rich intellectual heritage of the medieval Gladzor University.
